Thirty-five years after their major-label debut introduced them to the world, British cult metal heroes Wolfsbane are taking back their narrative. The band has officially released a high-octane music video for “All Or Nothing,” a standout track from their newly issued album, Live Faster.
The project represents a unique undertaking in the rock world. rather than issuing a standard remaster or remix, the group decided to completely re-record their seminal 1989 album, Live Fast, Die Fast, from the ground up. Originally released via Def American Recordings with production by the legendary Rick Rubin, the debut album has long been a fan favorite, though the band often felt the glossy production didn’t fully capture their raw, live energy.
Live Faster features the complete original lineup—Blaze Bayley (vocals), Jase Edwards (guitar), Jeff Hateley (bass), and Steve Danger (drums)—tearing through reimaginings of all ten tracks with the benefit of decades of touring experience.
Guitarist Jase Edwards, who also took on production duties for the new sessions, explained that the project was born out of persistent demand from their fanbase.
“You asked, we listened,” Edwards said. “None of us know how long we’ll be here on this earth, especially me, so it felt like the right time to remake the album in the way the band first envisioned it. It’s splendidly in your face and everything we hoped it would be.”
Frontman Blaze Bayley, who would later go on to front Iron Maiden before returning to Wolfsbane, echoed the sentiment, noting the joy of rediscovering the tracks in the studio.
“It’s great to be able to go back to the vibe of these songs and use the experience we have now to re-record and reimagine them with Jase producing it all,” Bayley said. “It’s been one of the most exciting things we’ve done and we didn’t expect it to be so much fun.”
Bassist Jeff Hateley admitted the band was initially resistant to the idea. “People have asked us to do this for years. We’ve always said no,” he confessed. “But then we realized we still play most of these songs live and they’ve evolved over the years. Now seemed like a good time to do it all again, our way. The same but different, different but the same.”
Drummer Steve Danger offered a characteristically enthusiastic, if slightly more cryptic, take on the reunion and recording process: “BLACK LEATHER JACKET! A new one, because old faithful no longer zips up due to a life full of experiences. Experiences equals cake!”
