Weezer Bassist Scott Shriner Facing Divorce After Tough Year Involving Wife’s Police Standoff

Following a chaotic year marked by a dramatic confrontation with law enforcement and serious health battles, the 20-year marriage between Weezer bassist Scott Shriner and author Jillian Lauren appears to be coming to an end. According to court documents obtained by People, Lauren has filed for divorce from the musician, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The filing brings a close to a relationship that began when the couple tied the knot in Hawaii in 2005. Together they share two sons, aged 13 and 17. In the legal petition, Lauren is requesting joint legal and physical custody of the children. Furthermore, she is seeking spousal support from Shriner and has requested that he cover her attorney fees, while asking the court to terminate its ability to award spousal support to him. She also intends to legally restore her name to Jillian Lauren.

The split follows a series of harrowing events for the family in 2025. On April 8, Lauren made headlines when she was involved in an officer-involved shooting at the couple’s home. The incident began when the LAPD was pursuing a suspect in an unrelated hit-and-run car chase, who attempted to flee onto Shriner’s property.

According to police reports, Lauren allegedly fired a gun at the intruder. When officers arrived, she reportedly pointed the weapon at them and refused commands to lower it, prompting police to fire. She sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder and was hospitalized before being taken into custody.

In May, she pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the standoff. By September, a judge granted her a mental health diversion, a legal ruling that allowed her to avoid jail time.

Compounding the stress of the legal incident, Lauren revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She underwent two back-to-back surgeries to treat the condition, including a full hysterectomy.

Neither party has publicly issued a statement regarding the divorce filing. Shriner has remained largely private about his family’s struggles throughout the year. When Weezer was added to the Coachella lineup shortly after the shooting incident this past summer, the bassist offered only a brief comment regarding his wife’s condition.

“She’s alright, thank you for asking,” Shriner said at the time.
