The BBC has released the first official trailer for its highly anticipated documentary, Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, offering a moving glimpse into the “last chapter” of Ozzy Osbourne‘s life. The film, which is now set to premiere on October 2, is described as a candid look at the rock icon’s final years and features the poignant admission from his daughter, Kelly, that the family was forced to accept that “Iron man wasn’t really made of iron.”
The one-hour special chronicles the final three years of Osbourne‘s life, documenting his “extraordinary roller-coaster” journey as he heroically battled declining health to fulfill his dream of performing on stage one last time. The project was filmed with “unique and intimate access” to the entire Osbourne family.
In a statement, the film’s executive producers, Ben Wicks and Colin Barr, described the experience of documenting this final chapter.
“It was an incredible privilege to spend the last few years with Ozzy, as well as Sharon, Jack and Kelly. Ozzy wanted to make it back to the U.K. and appear on stage one last time — our film is an inspiring and poignant account of him fulfilling that dream,” they said. “Ozzy was loved by millions around the world not just for his music, but for his sense of mischief and his honesty… But one thing shone through even more brightly to us, and that was Ozzy‘s intense love for his exceptional family who were by his side through it all.”
The BBC‘s head of commissioning for documentaries, Clare Sillery, also shared her thoughts on the powerful film.
“We are honored to have had the opportunity to film with Ozzy and his family,” Sillery stated. “The film captures an intimate glimpse into their journey… It features family moments, humor, reflection and shows the enduring spirit that made Ozzy a global icon. We hope it brings comfort and joy to Ozzy‘s fans and viewers as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”
The documentary was originally scheduled to air on August 18 but was postponed at the last minute, with the BBC stating at the time that they were “respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film.“
Originally conceived as a multi-part series titled Home To Roost, the project evolved into a single, focused one-hour film as Ozzy‘s health deteriorated. With the new air date now set for October 2 on BBC One and iPlayer, the film is poised to be the definitive, family-authorized document of the final, courageous chapter of one of rock’s most beloved and iconic figures.
