The 2024 Paris Olympics made history last night with a jaw-dropping opening ceremony that blended heavy metal with high art. French metal giants Gojira transformed the iconic Parisian skyline into a thunderous stage, delivering a mind-blowing performance of their revolutionary anthem “Ah, Ça Ira!”

The band’s set was a visual spectacle, featuring a dramatic backdrop, pyrotechnics, and an unexpected twist: a digitally superimposed, headless Marie Antoinette singing alongside the band. This audacious move sparked a global conversation, with social media ablaze with shock and humor.

Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier explained that the performance was a bold statement about the French Revolution, an era he described as “very bloody.” so it was “very metal.”
