Norwegian melodic black metal act Old Man’s Child has ended a remarkable 25-year hiatus from live performances, making a triumphant return to the stage on June 6, 2025, at this year’s Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg.
The long-awaited comeback saw mastermind Galder leading the charge with a powerful and energetic set. Galder, also widely recognized for his significant tenure as guitarist in Dimmu Borgir, reinvigorated Old Man’s Child‘s signature sound for the eager crowd.
This performance marks a significant new chapter for Old Man’s Child, as the band is now preparing for another historic milestone: their inaugural U.S. appearance. They are slated to perform at the upcoming Fire In The Mountains Festival, taking place from July 25–27, 2025. This premier open-air heavy music festival in North America has relocated to the Red Eagle Campground in Glacier, Montana, and is presented in collaboration with the Blackfeet Nation. The festival offers an immersive experience, combining wilderness camping with captivating performances set against the majestic Rocky Mountains, alongside art, workshops, and cultural education.
The resurgence of Old Man’s Child directly follows Galder’s official departure from Dimmu Borgir in August 2024. Galder had publicly stated his decision was the result of “years of careful reflection,” made in order to fully dedicate himself to his long-running solo project, Old Man’s Child.
In his full statement regarding his exit from Dimmu Borgir, Galder explained at the time: “Yesterday I played my last show with Dimmu Borgir. After almost 25 years of making music and playing with Dimmu Borgir I have decided to leave the band. I have been thinking about this for years and as many of you have been pointing out – it’s time for Old Man’s Child to get on stage again and finalizing new album. I with the best for the other members of the band moving forward. –G”
Old Man’s Child’s most recent studio album, Slaves of the World, was released in 2009 via Century Media Records.
