Jason Momoa didn’t just host Black Sabbath’s monumental “Back To The Beginning” farewell concert — he lived it.
The “Aquaman” star and self-professed metalhead jumped straight into the chaos during Pantera’s thunderous performance of “Cowboys From Hell” on July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham. Fan-filmed footage shows Momoa diving headfirst into the pit, moshing and headbanging alongside thousands of fans during one of the night’s wildest moments.
Momoa, who was tapped to host the event, wasn’t content staying on the sidelines. His high-energy pit dive proved he’s as passionate about metal as the fans surrounding him.
In a pre-show interview with Kerrang!, Momoa opened up about what the gig meant to him — and how it all came together.
“I’m over here begging for a ticket and now they want me to host it!” he laughed. “I’ve never hosted anything before but I’ve gotta go out in front of all these f****** people and host! And now it’s on pay-per-view. Jesus Christ…”
He added: “Ozzy is everything to me. Sabbath is every-f******-thing, man. I remember the first song, I remember playing Sabbath to my kids the first time. I love everything about that band. They’re real, man, and I’m just going to be around everyone that I grew up loving.”
According to Momoa, he originally reached out to friends in Metallica and Anthrax to help him get tickets before Sharon Osbourne personally invited him to host the event.
