VIMIC, the final project of the late drumming icon Joey Jordison, is set to release its long-awaited debut album, Open Your Omen, on October 3. The album’s final advance single, “Parasite Persona,” has premiered online, offering a final glimpse into a record that has been nearly a decade in the making.
Vocalist Kalen Chase said:
“The music of ‘Parasite Persona‘ is a combination of violent mania and claustrophobic oppression. It presses into your temples and then throws you off of a cliff. When I first heard it, the lyrical theme hit me like a sledgehammer. It’s a not-so-gentle musing about complete societal, social and spiritual breakdown. As a music fan, sometimes I don’t want to listen to peaceful protest songs, or hopeful songs, or love songs. Sometimes, I wanna dive into the darkness and despair so that I can come out the other side. In summation, ‘Parasite Persona‘ is heavy as f**k.”
The album’s path to release has been a challenging one, marked by a series of tragic events. Though the material was originally completed back in 2016, the album’s release was first derailed by the 2018 passing of co-producer Kato Khandwala. The project was further delayed following Jordison’s own death in 2021, leaving the album’s future in doubt. However, the Jordison family, committed to honoring Joey’s final musical vision, worked for years to secure the rights to the recordings. They launched a successful Kickstarter campaign that not only met its goal but raised over $100,000, allowing for the independent release of the album.
As a testament to his legacy, the album’s release will be celebrated with a special benefit show at The Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. The event will not only commemorate the album but will also raise funds for the Joey Jordison Charitable Fund. The evening is set to feature a star-studded lineup of guest drummers who will perform behind Jordison’s iconic kit. The list of performers includes Revocation‘s Ash Pearson, Crypta‘s Luana Dametto, 10-year-old drumming prodigy Caleb Hayes, and Accept‘s Chris Williams.
For many, Open Your Omen represents more than just a musical release; it is a powerful final statement from one of metal’s most influential figures. In a 2017 interview, Jordison described the album as a “rebirth” for him, stating that the project helped him overcome health issues. Now, thanks to the dedication of his family and fans, this final chapter of his musical journey will finally be shared with the world.
