Venom guitarist Rage and drummer Danté have addressed the titling coincidence between their sixteenth studio album and the most recent release from Lamb of God. Both bands released albums titled Into Oblivion within the first half of 2026, with Lamb of God‘s record arriving on March 13 and Venom‘s following on May 1.
During a new interview with Oran O’Beirne of Overdrive.ie, the members of Venom revealed that they were unconcerned by the overlapping titles. Rage, also known as Stuart Dixon, noted that the band had discussed the matter internally before deciding to move forward without changes.
“I think there was a bit, like, we were messaging, and then, I’ll not say who it was, one of us went, ‘So f**king what?'” Rage stated.
Drummer Danté, also known as Danny Needham, added that their record label supported the decision to keep the original name. “The record label weren’t too concerned. So it wasn’t, like, ‘S**t, we need a quick change of plan.’ It was, like, ‘Nah, nah,'” Danté explained.
The band members emphasized that their title track, “Into Oblivion“, has been part of their repertoire for several years. Rage remarked, “We wrote the song [the ‘Into Oblivion‘ title track] five years ago. F**k that. We were there first.”
Danté further commented on the timeline, saying: “They’ve [Lamb of God] done three f**king albums since we wrote that f**ker, so we were at least touring then.”
Into Oblivion serves as Venom‘s first new recording since their 2018 LP, Storm The Gates. The current lineup features co-founder Conrad “Cronos” Lant alongside Rage and Danté. The thirteen-track album aims to bridge the band’s classic 1980s sound with modern, progressive elements. Conrad “Cronos” Lant commented on the intensive production process, stating: “This album has really pushed the boundaries, but if you want to make a killer album, you pay for it in blood, sweat and tears.”
Guitarist Rage echoed that sentiment, emphasizing how the final product honors the band’s historic legacy while pushing their sound forward into new territory.
“I’m so proud of this album. It’s astounding! It feels so different, yet so familiar. The sonics are a step up, no song sounds the same, but they all work together.”
The release comes amid a period where three different entities utilize the Venom name. This includes the current Cronos-led version, a new collaboration between co-founders Jeff “Mantas” Dunn and Anthony “Abaddon” Bray, and Venom Inc., fronted by Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan. Jeff “Mantas” Dunn and Anthony “Abaddon” Bray recently announced they will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the 1981 debut Welcome To Hell at various festivals in 2026. Venom has historically been cited as a major influence by bands such as Metallica, Behemoth, Celtic Frost, and Mayhem.
Meanwhile, the Lamb of God iteration of Into Oblivion was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur. That ten-track record was tracked in Richmond, Virginia, with guitars recorded at the home studio of Mark Morton and vocals by Randy Blythe at Total Access in California. Released via Epic Records and Century Media, the Lamb of God album has received significant critical attention from publications such as Metal Hammer, Loudwire, and Kerrang!.
