Unauthorized Wayne Static And Tera Wray Documentary Set For 2026 Production

A new, unauthorized documentary chronicling the intense relationship between late Static-X frontman Wayne Static and his wife Tera Wray is moving into production in January 2026. The film will be directed by Matt Zane, a longtime friend and collaborator of the couple.

Zane also announced plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign in January to finance the project, which he says aims to tell the story the couple wanted to tell before their untimely deaths. Zane revealed he has a deep personal connection to the story, having worked closely with Wayne after his departure from Static-X.

“Most people are unaware that I knew Wayne for about 14 years, and I actually knew his wife Tera before him,” Zane said in a statement. “We were all close, and I worked on every project he did after leaving Static-X.”

Zane, who directed Wayne Static‘s solo music videos, explained that this film is the completion of an unfinished docuseries the trio had begun developing before Wayne‘s passing in 2014.

“I filmed bits and pieces over the years, but we needed a few solid weeks in the desert at their house to finish it — that was the plan. Unfortunately, funding fell through,” Zane explained. “I know this is something Wayne and Tera wanted to get done, and they wanted me to do it. I feel I owe them this — to tell their story the way they wanted it told.”

The documentary is also set to feature unreleased music that Zane and Static recorded together.

“There’s about an EP’s worth of material Wayne and I recorded for a movie Tera was doing, but his label stepped in and stopped it,” Zane revealed. “Some of those ideas ended up on Pighammer, but the rest has been sitting in my archives. I’m revisiting it now and will finish some of it with help from A.I. technology.”

Zane is currently seeking contributions from friends, colleagues, and collaborators who were close to the couple between 2008 and 2015, directing them to the film’s website, EveryoneDiesTheMovie.com.

This project is unauthorized. The families of Wayne Static and Tera Wray, as well as the original members of Static-X, are not involved in or endorsing the film.

Wayne Static died on November 1, 2014, at 48 from an accidental overdose. His wife, Tera Wray, died by suicide in January 2016.
