The U.K. homelessness charity Centrepoint has officially severed its relationship with Sharon Osbourne after she publicly expressed support for an upcoming anti-immigration rally.
According to The Guardian, the controversy began when Sharon Osbourne responded to a social media post promoting the “Unite the Kingdom” march, an event organized by Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon). Replying directly to the promotional video, she commented: “See you at the march.”
The demonstration is scheduled to take place on May 16 at Trafalgar Square in London. In the video shared alongside the event details, Tommy Robinson stated the date would mark the moment “Britain rises and reunites,” adding: “It’s the date the world hears our roar, and that we have had enough of migration and mass immigration and the oppression from a tyrannical government,” according to Metro.
Following the online backlash, Centrepoint clarified the extent of their professional relationship with the television personality and confirmed it has ended. The organization had recently collaborated with her on an Omaze fundraising campaign, which offered participants a prize draw for a £5 million property overlooking Lake Windermere alongside £250,000 in cash.
A spokesperson for the charity detailed the parameters of the partnership, stating (via The Guardian): “While Sharon supported us on this campaign, for which she was referred to as an ambassador as is standard for Omaze prize draws, she is not an official ongoing ambassador of Centrepoint and we have no plans to work together in the future.”
The organization issued further statements emphasizing its core operational principles, noting: “This sort of event does not align with our values. Centrepoint has a proud history of supporting young people whatever their background, ethnicity or religion. If we want young people to thrive in this country then we need to ensure our society continues to allow them to live without fear and able to access the opportunities they need to start education or work and leave homelessness behind.”
As of publication, Sharon Osbourne has not issued a public response regarding the charity’s decision.
