Turnstile has released a detailed statement addressing the recent arrest of their former guitarist, Brady Ebert. The message clarifies the circumstances surrounding his 2022 departure from the group and speaks out on the disturbing allegations that he intentionally ran over the father of frontman Brendan Yates.
According to a report by The Baltimore Banner, Brady Ebert, who also formerly played with The S.E.T., was arrested on March 31. He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault following a violent incident involving 79-year-old William Yates.
Police reports and surveillance footage allegedly show the former guitarist arriving at the Yates family residence, honking his vehicle’s horn and yelling obscenities. He is then accused of using his car to strike William Yates in the driveway, causing severe physical trauma and leg injuries. While speaking to police from his hospital bed, William Yates claimed that the assailant returned to the scene shortly after the attack and told him he “deserved it.” The victim also reported a history of prior incidents involving the musician since his dismissal from the band.
Breaking their silence on the matter, Turnstile provided a comprehensive statement to Rolling Stone. The group detailed a sustained pattern of erratic and threatening behavior that ultimately forced them to sever ties years ago.
The full statement from the band reads:
“Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community. After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.”
“In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further.”
“This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan‘s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan‘s father, causing severe physical trauma. We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery. We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy at this time.”
Following his exit from Turnstile, Brady has taken to social media to air grievances against his former band, making pointed allegations during a tense online exchange that offers further insight into the circumstances surrounding his exit.
The dispute was sparked after Turnstile shared an Instagram story featuring a sign that read “abolish ICE,” which was later reposted by Jesea Lee on Instagram. Ebert entered the discussion in the comments, where he criticized his former bandmates for what he described as performative activism and a lack of genuine ethical conviction. You can also see the comment here.
He wrote at the time: “Lmao, no one in turnstile cares at all about ethics or social issues in general, they’re just pandering to their audience.”
He went on to accuse the group of misconduct connected to one of their early benefit concerts.
“At turnstiles first free show they did they claimed all proceeds go to healthcare for the homeless, we raised 10000 dollars but i watched Brendan steal 4000 dollars from that and claim he needed to ‘pay the merch bill’ which was false.”
Ebert’s comments quickly reopened debate about his highly disputed exit from Turnstile in 2022. At the time, the split was widely viewed as acrimonious, with reports emerging that drummer Daniel Fang had sought a restraining order against Ebert, though specific details were never fully disclosed.
In a subsequent comment on the same post, Ebert directly addressed that period, forcefully disputing what he characterized as false or misleading narratives surrounding the situation.
“Also my friends filed a restraining order and guess what, they had two laywers with them abd I showed up to court bt myself and the judge DENIED the restraining order,” he wrote. “Because there was no statute in the laws about what qualifies for a restraining order that they were able to meet the requirements of.”
He continued: “In other words they had no reason to file it and it was all over text messages which they showed the judge and the judge agreed with me without me even having to testify so next time before u spread bulls**t misinformation say that s**t to my face.”
