Heavy metal powerhouse Trivium has announced a new three-song EP, Struck Dead, which is set for release on October 31 via Roadrunner Records. The Grammy-nominated band, comprised of Matthew K. Heafy, Corey Beaulieu, Paolo Gregoletto, and Alex Bent, is kicking off this new era with the single “Bury Me With My Screams,” for which a video was also released. The track made its debut on Heafy’s SiriusXM Liquid Metal show, “Chaos Hour“, and will be performed live for the first time during the band’s headlining set at the Bloodstock Open Air festival this Friday night.
The EP’s creation was born out of a period of both professional and personal growth for the band. According to bassist Paolo Gregoletto, the project began with the group’s decision to build a full studio at their rehearsal space in Orlando, Florida. During the year-long construction, the band was also rehearsing for “The Poisoned Ascendancy” tour, a celebration of the 20th anniversary of their breakout album, Ascendancy.
Gregoletto explained that the energy of revisiting their older material directly influenced the new songs. “What started as an idea to release one single during the tour quickly grew into two, then three, as we kept writing while we were waiting for the build-out to be completed,” he said. He added that frontman Matthew K. Heafy channeled his personal struggles from the past year into the music, making the writing process a cathartic experience for the band. The EP, which was produced by Trivium and recorded with Mark Lewis at their new Hangar Studios, was mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur.
The track list for the Struck Dead EP is as follows:
- “Bury Me With My Screams“
- “Struck Dead (Pain Is Easier To Remember)“
- “Six Walls Surround Me“
In addition to their performance at Bloodstock Open Air, Trivium will be embarking on a tour this fall titled “The Ascend Above The Ashes,” with special guests Jinjer and Heriot. The tour begins on October 31 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and concludes with a hometown show in Orlando, Florida, on December 14. European fans can also catch the band on a string of dates this month.
