Just months after unleashing their Halloween 2025 EP Struck Dead, the band has decided to begin work on their next chapter. Vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy broke the news on social media on January 6, sharing a photo that confirmed the group is already deep in the creative process.
Heafy’s caption was brief but effective in rallying the fanbase:
“The four of us are back in the studio! Got any messages for us? Leave em here.”
The “four of us” Heafy refers to includes the band’s newest member, drummer Alex Rüdinger.
The closing months of 2025 were a whirlwind for the band’s rhythm section. In early October, just hours before a scheduled performance at the Aftershock festival, Trivium announced the amicable departure of longtime drummer Alex Bent, who had served as the band’s engine for nine years across acclaimed albums like The Sin and the Sentence and In the Court of the Dragon.
Following a temporary fill-in performance by Sepultura‘s Greyson Nekrutman at Aftershock, the band officially secured Rüdinger (formerly of Whitechapel) later that month. When Trivium announced Rüdinger‘s arrival in late October 2025, they explicitly stated that he was not just a touring hired gun, but would be an active participant in the “writing sessions for the next Trivium record.”
