Trivium fans are eagerly anticipating new music as the Florida-based metal quartet gears up for a fresh release, slated to drop within the next two weeks. This timely unveiling will precede their appearance at Bloodstock Open Air festival, set to take place in the United Kingdom from August 7-10. The exciting news comes courtesy of Trivium guitarist Corey Beaulieu, who provided details in a recent interview with U.K.’s Primordial Radio.
Beaulieu confirmed that the new song is scheduled for release before Trivium’s Bloodstock appearance, where the band intends to play it live. While a precise date remains under wraps, he indicated that the release would occur in the first week of August. “Basically, it’s gonna drop before… I can’t remember the exact day, but it’s supposed to come out before we play Bloodstock, ’cause we’re gonna play it at Bloodstock. So, I guess that would be anywhere the first week of August. So within that timeframe,” Beaulieu explained (as transcribed by Blabbermouth).
The band has been subtly teasing this new material online, strategically building anticipation among their dedicated fanbase. “We’ve been hinting at this song online with clips and everything for a while, so people know it’s coming. They just don’t know exactly when,” Corey stated, noting Trivium‘s deliberate approach to these teasers. He acknowledged that each snippet further fuels the fans’ desire for the complete track.
“But it’s gonna be before we start this tour, so the first week of August, in that timeframe, it’s gonna drop, I believe. We’ve been filming some content and stuff to promote it, leading up to it, so there’s gonna be a lot more ramping up to totally piss everyone off, ’cause they’d been just waiting for new music. So every time you post a snippet or a clip or some kind of teaser, it makes people more mad. So it’s gonna ramp up, ’cause they just want the song.”
Beaulieu also shed light on how the band’s recent tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Roadrunner Records debut, Ascendancy, influenced their new songwriting. He revealed that Trivium began crafting new songs last year during rehearsals for the Ascendancy shows. This organic creative process, free from the pressure of a full album cycle, resulted in material that captures the “spirit animals of Ascendancy.”
“We were rehearsing Ascendancy and we kind of used the energy and playing those songs, and we were, like, ‘Oh, let’s kind of parlay that into new music’,” Beaulieu elaborated. He described the new songs as a blend of Ascendancy‘s spirit and Trivium’s contemporary sound. The forthcoming single is particularly aggressive. “The first song coming out definitely is a very — I guess maybe the closest comparison might be ‘Rain‘, in a sense of just something right in your face, fast, very aggressive. So, it’s definitely gonna be cool.”
Corey further detailed Trivium’s release strategy for the new material. Initially, the band had planned to release standalone singles throughout the Ascendancy anniversary tour to provide fans with fresh music. However, with the tour concluding sooner than anticipated, they shifted gears to release an EP. “We’re just gonna put everything out at one time. We’re working on some really cool, special vinyl stuff, some collectible stuff. So kind of do a little special mini-release before we are able to get a [full] record done,” he shared. This approach aims to deliver new content to fans who have been patiently waiting, serving as an exciting precursor to a future full-length album can be completed.
Following their Bloodstock appearance, Trivium will embark on the “Ascend Above The Ashes” tour this fall. The tour kicks off on October 31 in Myrtle Beach and concludes on December 14 with a special hometown show in Orlando. Trivium will be joined by special guests Jinjer and support from Heriot. This tour will continue the celebration of Ascendancy while also showcasing the newly released music. Additionally, Trivium is scheduled to perform at the Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals later this fall. Earlier this year, Trivium also participated in “The Poisoned Ascendancy” tour alongside Bullet For My Valentine, where both bands celebrated the 20th anniversary of their respective landmark albums, Ascendancy and The Poison, by performing them in their entirety.
