In a shocking announcement made just hours before their scheduled performance at the Aftershock festival, the modern metal band Trivium has officially parted ways with their acclaimed drummer of nine years, Alex Bent. In a classy and heartfelt farewell statement, Bent expressed his gratitude and unwavering support for the band, stating: “I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world.”

The surprising news of the amicable split was posted to the band’s official social media channels on Saturday, October 4, leaving fans to speculate on who will be behind the kit for their major festival performance in Sacramento, California, later tonight.

In his statement, Bent reflected on his nearly decade-long tenure with the band and looked forward to his own new chapter.

His full statement reads:

“I am beyond grateful for the incredible past nine years with Trivium — filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me. I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support.”

“While this chapter has come to a close, this is by no means the end of my path as a musician. I’m excited for this new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to create, perform, and share music in new ways.”

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world.”

Trivium has not yet announced who will be drumming for them at Aftershock or who will be Bent‘s permanent replacement.

Bent joined Trivium in late 2016 and is widely credited with bringing a new level of technicality and power to the band’s sound. His tenure is seen by many fans as a period of stability and creative resurgence, as he contributed to some of their most celebrated recent albums, including 2017’s The Sin and the Sentence, 2020’s What the Dead Men Say, and 2021’s In the Court of the Dragon.
