On 29th July, founding member of Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi announced his brand-new studio album, From The Dark and premiered the first single from it, “World Alone” to critical and fan acclaim. Racking up 2.5 million streams and heavy global radio playlisting since its release, “World Alone” is a thunderous rock song that speeds along on a barrage of flying guitar riffs and solos, backed by a driving rhythm section and topped off with the powerful rock operatics of acclaimed Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande. This limited edition 7″ single edition of “World Alone” is out today and has an exclusive instrumental version on the B-side and is packaged in a deluxe, foiled sleeve.
The video for “World Alone” is based around a retrofuture, dystopian universe where the lead protagonist, The Believer, is pitched into a twisted video game to save his life and ultimately find salvation.
Earlier this week, Tony released a behind the scenes film, pulling back the curtain on how this extraordinary video was made.
From The Dark sees Tony Iommi joined throughout by Jorn Lande, who shares writing credits on all songs, as well as bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil. Co-produced by Tony and Mike Exeter, his long-time creative partner, co-writer, producer and audio engineer, the sound is crystalline, vibrant and enormous, engulfing the listener in a state-of-the-art sonic experience that is as contemporary as it is timeless.
The track listing for From The Dark is as follows:
- Over The Violent Sun
- Black Times
- World Alone
- Beyond The Dead
- Stormwatcher
- Death Wake
- Return Of The Arbalist
- Legacy
From The Dark is Iommi‘s first solo album since Fused in 2005, and his first full-length studio release of any kind since Black Sabbath‘s 13 in 2013.
“It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything – it’s a great album, it rocks!” Iommi said when it was announced.
It arrives a little over a year after Black Sabbath‘s farewell concert, “Back To The Beginning“, held in Birmingham in July 2025. Ozzy Osbourne died 17 days later.
Jorn Lande, known for his work with Masterplan and Avantasia, sings on every track and shares writing credits across the album. Becky Baldwin of Mercyful Fate plays bass and Karl Brazil, a longtime Robbie Williams drummer, is behind the kit. Iommi co-produced with Mike Exeter, his engineer and collaborator of many years.
Lande has worked with Iommi before. He sang at the 2010 High Voltage festival at Victoria Park in London, at a tribute to Ronnie James Dio alongside surviving Heaven & Hell members Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice, with Glenn Hughes also taking part.
