Canadian hard rock veterans Three Days Grace have officially released a brand-new music video for their latest single, “Don’t Wanna Go Home Tonight“. Directed by Matt Barnes, the track is lifted directly from the band’s highly celebrated recent studio album, Alienation. The record quickly gave No. 1 hit singles “Mayday” and “Apologies“.
Released in August 2025 through RCA Records, Alienation stands as a monumental record for the long-running group. The project famously marks the return of original frontman Adam Gontier after more than a decade away. Gontier now shares dual vocal duties with his successor, Matt Walst, alongside the core instrumental lineup of drummer Neil Sanderson, bassist Brad Walst, and guitarist Barry Stock.
When discussing the inspiration behind “Don’t Wanna Go Home Tonight” during a last year’s interview with Metal Talk, Matt Walst explained that the track taps into a deep sense of childhood nostalgia.
“It just brings me back to when I was younger and didn’t have so much worry or responsibility, and not caring what tomorrow brought. You’re just in the moment as a kid. There’s not as much chaos, I guess, in my life now, and I definitely don’t feel like my life is boring in any way, but I just feel like when you’re younger, you don’t know the world as much and you’re a little bit freer,” Walst stated at the time.
He also emphasized how the group’s commitment to honest, vulnerable songwriting continues to resonate with their dedicated fanbase.
He added: “We write about all sorts of things that we’re going through or what we see around us, and it’s all from a real place. I feel like that’s why people can relate to the songs. And I feel like we’ve been doing that for a long time now, and that’s why people love Three Days Grace — they can apply themselves to a song. And it’s kind of like therapy for them.”
The reinvigorated lineup officially hit the stage together for their first full show in 12 years on February 25, 2025. That historic performance took place at the Ford Idaho Center Arena in Nampa, Idaho, where Three Days Grace served as the main support act for Disturbed on the U.S. leg of the “The Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour“.
During an interview on the Baltimore radio station “98 Rock” with hosts Justin Schlegel and Josh Spiegel, Gontier discussed the band’s current “Alienation” tour and how the decision to share vocal duties came about.
According to Gontier, pushing Matt Walst out of the spotlight was never on the table.
“Yeah, first, there was never a moment where I wanted to come in and take back [the position as the sole lead singer]. No way.”
He went on to explain that their shared history growing up together made the unprecedented lineup change incredibly smooth.
“We were all friends from a small town before we got signed as a band and stuff, so we grew up together,” he explained. “So the foundation that we have is really strong. And aside from all the stuff that we went through over the last bunch of years, and when I left and that sort of thing, there was a lot going on for me. But no — coming back, it was Matt and Brad had been talking about it for a while, and Barry had put it out there, like, we really thought it was something that the Three Days Grace fans would enjoy hearing both of us — me up there doing most of the older stuff and Matt doing the newer stuff and maybe we can do parts together, and can this work? And because of that foundation, just growing up together, I think was really easy — it was pretty seamless.”
When it comes to writing and performing, Gontier noted that sharing the vocal load has actually opened up new creative avenues for the band, allowing each singer to play to their specific strengths.
“We got in a room together, sat down with guitars, and it was like we hadn’t missed a beat. It was super natural. And it’s cool, because there’s parts now that we write that we can write where, let’s say if it’s a little heavier and needs more of a screamy-type thing, Matt‘s really good at that kind of thing too. And I’m not good at these weird kind of open screams and stuff, but Matt can do them. So there’s parts where it’s just natural it’s for him. And there’s other parts that are natural for me. So it works — it just works amazing.”
