Alternative rock icons The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating the 35th anniversary of their platinum-certified debut album, Gish, with a special vinyl reissue and an exclusive merchandise collection. Originally released on May 28, 1991, the landmark record served as the foundational launchpad for the band’s massive impact on the 1990s alternative music scene.

The newly unveiled anniversary offerings include a limited-edition colored vinyl pressing, alongside a standard black vinyl edition available through Madame ZuZu’s. To complement the audio release, the diamond-certified band has also launched a dedicated Gish merchandise capsule via their official website.

The milestone reissue arrives during a deeply nostalgic period for The Smashing Pumpkins. The band recently made headlines by reuniting in the studio with legendary Gish producer Butch Vig for the first time in 32 years, marking a major full-circle moment for the musicians.

In addition to honoring their debut, the band is preparing for a massive live celebration of their definitive 1995 double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Later this year, the group will embark on “The Rats In A Cage Tour,” an ambitious North American arena run scheduled to span from September through November 2026.

Each night of the upcoming tour will feature a unique two-set format. The first half of the concert will serve as a dedicated celebration of the recent 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, while the second set will deliver a career-spanning journey covering nearly four decades of radio hits, deep cuts, and fan favorites.

The band’s current focus on large-scale legacy productions has also sparked conversations about modern live music innovations. Frontman Billy Corgan recently confirmed that The Smashing Pumpkins hold a strong interest in securing a residency at the state-of-the-art Las Vegas Sphere venue in Nevada.

Speaking on the “Klein. Ally. Show.” broadcasted on Los Angeles radio station KROQ, Corgan was asked directly if the veteran rock group would be open to performing at the immersive facility.

“Absolutely. It’s a no-doubter for us. We just haven’t been asked yet,” he replied.

Corgan went on to clarify that rather than playing a standard, career-spanning greatest hits set, his vision for the Sphere involves a fully theatrical production built around their 1995 masterpiece.

“If the Sphere came to us and said, ‘We’d love you to do all of [Smashing Pumpkins‘ seminal 1995 RIAA-diamond-certified album] Mellon Collie [And The Infinite Sadness] with that production,’ now that makes sense to me. That makes sense to me, to do something like that, to build a show around the album, much like we’ve done the opera with The Lyric [Opera] in Chicago, and now it’s going to Europe. That makes sense to me because then you have a chance to recast the songs and the music in a different dynamic. But playing a 30-year-old album with that pacing and that song order, and expect everyone to sit there and be happy, I think that’s asking a lot of the audience. That’s why we fought against just going out and playing the record.”

While a Las Vegas residency remains a future ambition, fans can currently access the new Gish anniversary collections as the band finalizes preparations for their extensive autumn arena tour.
