The Rolling Stones have officially premiered the music video for their latest single, “In The Stars“, offering a high-energy visual accompaniment to the lead track from their newly announced studio album, Foreign Tongues. Directed by the acclaimed Francois Rousselet, the video utilizes cutting-edge deepfake technology to transport audiences back in time.
Francois Rousselet, whose previous collaborations with the band include the visuals for “Angry” from Hackney Diamonds and “Ride ‘Em On Down” from Blue & Lonesome, worked with the creative team at Deep Voodoo to execute the ambitious project. The video features a digitally recreated version of The Rolling Stones as they appeared in the 1970s, performing the new track alongside a diverse cast of musicians, dancers, and singers representing various eras and subcultures.
The music video stars rising actress Odessa A’zion, known for her roles in “Marty Supreme and I Love LA“. For Odessa A’zion, participating in a project for The Rolling Stones was the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition. She shared her excitement regarding the experience in an official statement:
“Are you kidding me? It’s my dream. The first record that I ever got that I listened to from start to finish was Tattoo You. I’m obsessed with The Rolling Stones. This is in my bucket list for sure.”
Scheduled for release on July 10 via Capitol Records, Foreign Tongues is a 14-track collection that arrived much sooner than many fans anticipated. The album follows less than three years after the band’s Grammy-winning global hit Hackney Diamonds.
The recording sessions for the new project were notably brief and intense. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood spent less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London to bring the songs to life. The band once again partnered with producer Andrew Watt, who was instrumental in the sonic direction of their previous record. The result is described as a forward-looking effort that maintains the classic Stones sound while exploring new lyrical and musical territory. Most notably, the album features a special posthumous appearance from late drummer Charlie Watts, utilizing recordings captured during his final sessions before his passing in 2021. The guest roster is heavily stacked, featuring contributions from Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney of The Beatles, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The track “In The Stars” is currently available digitally along with the album’s opener, “Rough And Twisted“. Fans of physical media can expect the single to hit shelves on CD and vinyl starting May 15.
In the weeks leading up to the album announcement, The Rolling Stones employed a classic “guerrilla” marketing tactic. A limited white-label vinyl release of “Rough And Twisted” began circulating among collectors under the pseudonym The Cockroaches.
The name—a deep-cut alias the band has used for secret club shows in the past—immediately sparked a frenzy among the fanbase. The raw energy of that vinyl release provided an early indication of the “exploratory” direction the band has taken with Foreign Tongues.
