The Darkness Surprise London Commuters With Piano Performance At St Pancras Station (Video)

Commuters rushing through London’s St Pancras International Station on Tuesday got far more than a train announcement, as The Darkness staged an impromptu holiday pop-up concert in the main concourse.

Frontman Justin Hawkins and his brother, guitarist Dan Hawkins, commandeered the station’s public piano for a stripped-back set that transformed the travel hub into a rock-and-roll choir. The surprise appearance was designed to celebrate a major milestone for the band: the upcoming 20th anniversary of their sophomore album, One Way Ticket To Hell… And Back, and the announcement of their biggest UK arena tour in two decades, scheduled for December 2026.

With Justin on keys and vocals and Dan accompanying on acoustic guitar, the duo delivered a set that mixed their biggest hits with seasonal favorites. The performance included their perennial holiday anthem “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)” alongside a tongue-in-cheek cover of Cliff Richard‘s “Mistletoe And Wine.” The pair also treated the gathering crowd to acoustic renditions of the smash hit “I Believe In A Thing Called Love,” as well as fan favorites “Givin’ Up” and “Friday Night.”

Justin Hawkins, never one to shy away from theatricality, addressed the stunned crowd with a festive declaration:

“As Santa prepares to fly his reindeer-fueled sleigh of Slays across the night sky, thence to squeeze his tubby frame down the exhaust flues of the nation’s central heating boilers, so we, The Darkness, dust off our Christmas songs in readiness for a glut of celebration!”

He continued, humorously acknowledging the setting: “And what better place to celebrate than Britain’s favourite railway station? As the commuters hurry by, mince pies crushed in their frozen palms, we are filled with joy to tickle the ivories of Christmas Warmth, and strum upon the Lute of Festive Light.”

The performance follows a tradition of high-profile artists gracing the St Pancras pianos, a list that includes Elton John, John Legend, and Rod Stewart.

The surprise gig served as a prelude to the band’s massive 2026 plans. To mark two decades since the release of One Way Ticket To Hell… And Back—famous for its cover art featuring a steam train—the band will embark on a headline arena tour across the UK next December.

Tickets for the 2026 tour will go on general sale this Friday, November 28.
