Fresh off a “Best Rock Album” Grammy nomination for their 2024 comeback effort Happiness Bastards and a nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025, The Black Crowes are refusing to slow down. The legendary rock outfit has officially announced the details of their next studio LP, A Pound Of Feathers, which is set to arrive on March 13 via Silver Arrow Records.
To mark the announcement, the band has simultaneously dropped two contrasting singles: the funky, high-energy opener “Profane Prophecy” and a heavier, contemplative track titled “Pharmacy Chronicles.” You can hear them down below.
For this project, the Robinson brothers returned to Nashville to work with Grammy-winning producer Jay Joyce. According to frontman Chris Robinson, the sessions were characterized by an almost manic burst of creativity, resulting in an 11-track collection captured in little more than a week.
“We made this record in eight to ten days,” says Chris Robinson. “Bringing the high and inspiration from Happiness Bastards into this album, it was a natural progression. We experimented more, we wrote on instinct and how we were feeling in the moment. Rich brought a spontaneity to the record that I can’t describe, but it’s the best s**t he’s ever done.”
While the new record retains the soulful blues-rock DNA that defined the band’s four-decade career, guitarist Rich Robinson suggests that A Pound Of Feathers ventures into rougher, more dynamic territory.
“This album feels transformative to us,” Rich adds. “Going back to our roots, we felt that spark in the studio and how we work together. Lighting a fire that hits harder, more jagged but is still true to our musical essence.”
The dual single release offers a glimpse into the album’s thematic duality—playing on the title’s contrast between the lightness of feathers and the heaviness of lead. “Profane Prophecy” is described as a “spiked” opener filled with cheeky lyricism, while “Pharmacy Chronicles” serves as a cynical slow-burn that urges listeners to confront their vices rather than retreat from them.
