System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan recently demanded that actress Charlize Theron be incarcerated, reacting to a quote regarding children’s gender identities that was falsely attributed to her.
On his Instagram story this weekend (captured by theprp), John Dolmayan shared a screenshot of a post claiming Charlize Theron said: “What drives me is this: my children are all queer. My Eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest child is fluid.”
Adding his own commentary to the image, the drummer wrote: “This woman should be in an asylum or jail. These children are being mentally abused, statistically impossible!”
Unsurprisingly, Dolmayan’s comment has sparked controversy on the band’s subreddit.
The statement in question was not made by Charlize Theron. While the actress is an advocate for transgender rights and has an adopted transgender child, the quoted text originates from a 2023 interview with fellow Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden.
According to People magazine, Marcia Gay Harden stated at the time: “What drives me is — my children are all queer. My eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest is fluid. And you know, they are my kids and they teach me every day.”
The graphic shared by the System Of A Down drummer originally came from David Harris Jr., a host on the Newsmax2 channel, who uploaded the misattributed text to Instagram on April 17.
John Dolmayan has maintained a highly public conservative political stance for several years. His outspoken positions have previously caused public friction with System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian. In 2023, the drummer acknowledged that his ongoing support for political figures like Donald Trump had resulted in hundreds of thousands of lost followers across his social media platforms.
