The Atlantic City Police Department has announced an arrest in connection with the theft of musical instruments belonging to the legendary rock band Heart. The incident occurred on May 30 at the Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena, located within the Hard Rock Atlantic City, just one day before Heart was scheduled to perform there.
According to police, a guitar and a mandolin were stolen from the venue. The investigation was swiftly launched by Sergeant Gary Holmes and Detective Lisa Kaplin-Caldwell. Their work, aided by surveillance footage, quickly identified a 57-year-old male suspect from Pleasantville, New Jersey. Investigators obtained additional video evidence showing the man attempting to sell the instruments in various parts of Atlantic City.
On June 4, Detective Kaplin-Caldwell filed criminal charges against the suspect, leading to his immediate apprehension. Officers Alex Torres and Glen Robinson located and took the individual into custody in the first block of south Kentucky Avenue.
Detectives have since learned that the suspect successfully sold one of the stolen instruments. However, the whereabouts of the other instrument remain unknown. The Atlantic City Police Department has issued a strong warning to anyone who may be in possession of these stolen items, urging them to contact the department and voluntarily surrender the instrument. Failure to do so could result in arrest and criminal charges for receiving stolen property if the individual is found with the items. Security personnel from Hard Rock Atlantic City provided crucial assistance throughout the investigation.
Heart has released a statement expressing their gratitude for the efforts made but also their ongoing concern for the missing instruments. The band stated: “We are deeply grateful to the Atlantic City Police Department, the Hard Rock organization, and everyone who came together to support us in the search for our stolen instruments. The outpouring of love and concern has been overwhelming, and we are truly touched by the strength and compassion of this community.”
The band continued, acknowledging the widespread support: “We’ve heard from fans, fellow musicians, media outlets, and kind-hearted people from around the world — and it means the world to us. Your support has been amazing!” Despite the progress, the instruments are still not back with the band. “While we’re encouraged by the progress made and thankful that an arrest has been made, our instruments have not yet been recovered. We remain hopeful that they will be returned to us soon,” Heart concluded. The investigation into the full recovery of the stolen instruments continues.
In March, Heart revealed plans for their “An Evening With Heart” U.S. tour, set for spring and summer 2025. The tour, featuring two distinct sets each night, began on May 31 at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City and is scheduled to wrap up on June 28 in Hollywood, Florida.
