Legendary guitarist Steve Vai has officially placed his longtime residence in Encino, California, on the market with an asking price of nearly $11.8 million.

As reported by Robb Report, the 65-year-old musician and his wife, Pia, purchased the property three decades ago for $1.2 million. The couple recently vacated the home, relocating to the Rancho Santa Fe area of San Diego in early 2025.

Situated behind private gates in Encino’s highly sought-after Music Row neighborhood, the original mid-century home has been extensively expanded and remodeled. The primary residence now spans over 10,000 square feet, boasting five ensuite bedrooms, nine-foot ceilings, acacia wood flooring, and original poured-in-place terrazzo across the entry, foyer, and patios. A massive 3,000-square-foot addition to the property features a professional recording studio, a gym, and a pool house. The listing is currently being managed by Sotheby’s International Realty.

Beyond his real estate moves, Steve Vai remains one of the most prolific and celebrated musicians in rock history. Across a career spanning more than 45 years, the virtuoso composer and producer has sold over 15 million records, earned three Grammy Awards, and recorded alongside rock icons such as Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake.

He has also spearheaded massive collaborative tours, including the “G3” runs alongside fellow guitarists like Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Steve Lukather. He further expanded this concept with the “Generation Axe” supergroup, featuring Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nuno Bettencourt, and Tosin Abasi.

Remaining highly active on multiple fronts, he previously authored the educational book “Vaideology: Basic Music Theory For Guitar Players” and recently completed an exhaustive global tour in support of his latest studio album, Inviolate. His 2023 international itinerary saw him stage performances in 51 countries, including debut appearances in Vietnam, Taiwan, Bahrain, India, and six new markets in China. In 2024, he completed a 65-date North American tour with Beat, a project featuring Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Danny Carey.

Currently, Steve Vai is on the road with SatchVai, a collaborative band with Joe Satriani. The duo launched their “Surfing With The Hydra” 2026 tour on April 1 in Seattle, Washington. The trek, featuring support from progressive metal outfit Animals As Leaders, will continue through the spring before concluding on May 30 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia.

Steve Vai has also been recruited by Coca-Cola to record a new solo for a reimagined version of the Van Halen classic “Jump“. The updated track will serve as an official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a 48-team soccer tournament hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.
