Iron Maiden is celebrating their 50th anniversary on the massive “Run for Your Lives” world tour. While the trek is scheduled to run through November 2026, the legendary heavy metal band plans to take a well-deserved break from live performances in 2027.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Steve Harris addressed the impending hiatus, admitting he would prefer to keep the touring momentum going.
“It looks like we’re taking next year off,” Harris said. “Personally, I didn’t want to, but that’s me. I’m just one of six people, despite what people might think. They don’t just all do as they’re told. Otherwise we’d be doing stuff next year, too.”
Regarding the possibility of writing new material and trying to capture the magic of their classic era, the bassist quickly dismissed the idea of attempting to recreate past glories.
“Anyone can harp on about the early stuff, but what’s the point in doing ‘Run to the Hills‘ Part Two or ‘The Trooper‘ Part Two?” he stated.
While remaining tight-lipped about specific plans for a future studio album, he explained the band’s collaborative decision-making process: “We tend to get together in rehearsals and have a chat and see what everyone wants to do and go from there.”
The “Run for Your Lives” tour kicked off in 2025 and features a setlist heavily focused on the band’s golden era. The repertoire is drawn almost entirely from albums released between 1980 and 1992, with the notable exception of 1990’s No Prayer for the Dying.
Iron Maiden will resume the trek next month, with upcoming legs scheduled across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. In addition to their heavy touring schedule, the band is the subject of a new documentary film, “Burning Ambition,” arriving in cinemas on May 07. Furthermore, the group will be officially inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this November. However, the current active lineup will not attend the ceremony in Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, due to their ongoing touring commitments.
