Soulfly Releases ‘No Pain = No Power’ Video Featuring Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares And More

Soulfly has celebrated the release of their 13th studio album, Chama, by unveiling a new music video for the all-star track “No Pain = No Power.” The new album, which is out today, October 24, is being described by frontman Max Cavalera as a record defined by a “very punk” attitude.

The new single features guest contributions from Fear Factory‘s Dino Cazares, Unto Others’ Gabriel Franco, and No Warning‘s Ben Cook. The accompanying video, directed by Max‘s son and Soulfly drummer Zyon Cavalera, features a strong UFC connection. Max Cavalera called the song and video a “collective masterpiece” and praised his son’s work. “Zyon took this album and video to the next level… Mixing UFC and Metal will hopefully inspire a whole new generation of fans!” he said.

Zyon Cavalera echoed the sentiment, explaining the personal inspiration. “It feels like just yesterday watching UFC fights with my family talking about how cool it would be to connect with a fighter,” he stated. “Then we saw Pereira using ‘Itsari’ and were hooked ever since. ‘No Pain = No Power‘ goes to show your dreams are not so far away.”

In a recent interview, Max Cavalera explained that Chama—the Brazilian word for “flame” or “calling”—is a return to the band’s roots in “attitude” rather than just sonics. He said the record was inspired by the raw, spontaneous energy of his side projects like Go Ahead And Die and Nailbomb.

“I feel this record, in a weird, unique way, the attitude of it is very punk in its essence,” Max said. “It’s a short record, shorter songs… I’m singing with conviction. I’m saying the words because I believe in them and I’m screaming them with truly fully convinced about what I’m saying.”

He added that “sometimes the greatest, coolest s**t is the s**t that you just thought of it in a second and then just went for it, spur of the moment. So there’s a lot of spur-of-the-moment things on this record.”

The band is set to take the new music on the road in November for a U.S. tour. Max Cavalera will be pulling double duty each night, as Go Ahead And Die is also on the bill.
