After nearly two decades of rumors, false starts, and missed deadlines, Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan has issued a definitive update regarding the band’s unreleased album, Look Outside Your Window. During a live Q&A session with fans on Discord yesterday, the musician apologized for previous delays and officially flagged 2026 as the year the project will finally see the light of day.
The update came as Crahan engaged with the community to celebrate the launch of his new Minecraft venture, “Vernearth.” Addressing the frustration surrounding the album—which has achieved near-mythical status among the fanbase—Crahan offered a direct pledge.
“Lets start with LOYW, i know I told everyone it would be this year. I’m very sorry its hasnt been,” Crahan wrote to fans. “Things come to play that change things all the time with the art we create. I want you to know 2026 is the year. It’s just simply time and I’m just getting tired of waiting myself. Have faith. I promise.”
The album’s history is unique within the band’s discography. Recorded in 2008 alongside the sessions for All Hope Is Gone, the material was not created by the full nine-member lineup. Instead, it was the product of experimentation by Crahan, vocalist Corey Taylor, guitarist Jim Root, and DJ Sid Wilson, who worked in a separate studio while the rest of the band recorded the main album.
The result is a collection of 11 songs that purportedly deviate significantly from Slipknot‘s signature aggression. Vocalist Corey Taylor has previously described the sound as having a “Radiohead vibe,” distinct from the heavy metal for which the band is known.
“The stuff from Look Outside Your Window is really, really — I mean, there’s no real way to describe it,” Taylor said in a 2019 interview. “It’s experimental, but it’s super vibey, super melodic. It’s really good… For people who are used to a certain way of Slipknot sounding, this doesn’t sound anything like that. It’s much more of a rock vibe. Honestly, it’s much more of a Radiohead vibe, to be honest.”
While Crahan had previously hinted at a 2024 release, stating the record was mixed, mastered, and had approved artwork, business complications likely played a role in the most recent postponement. In November, it was reported that several members of Slipknot sold a majority stake in their catalog royalties and publishing to HarbourView Equity Partners in a deal estimated at $120 million.
