Shawn “Clown” Crahan, the percussionist and visual mastermind behind Slipknot, is taking his dark creative vision into the digital realm. Crahan has officially announced the launch of “Vernearth,” an expansive new Minecraft server designed to merge the band’s chaotic aesthetic with community-driven gameplay.
A new trailer released today offers a first look at the project, which Crahan describes as a “sprawling, multi-mode universe.” Built using custom technology, the server aims to redefine the standard Minecraft experience by offering a mix of survival, combat, and artistic creation.
At launch, the Vernearth ecosystem will systematically roll out four distinct game modes. The centerpiece of the experience is “Oblivion,” a custom-generated survival world. This “core world” features realistic terrain corrupted by “clown”-inspired horror elements. Players can form factions and explore a map rich with lore, centered around three major capital cities: Raziel, Seniomsed, and The City of Eternal.
For players seeking high-intensity action, the “PVP / Event” server offers a dedicated space for combat. This mode features weekly tournaments and game types like “Last Man Standing” and “Duels.” Combatants will battle across four custom-built arenas—The Circle Sphere, The Blood Square, The Blood Oval, and UnEden—to earn a specific “War” currency used to unlock exclusive items.
Conversely, “Plotworld” serves as a sanctuary for builders. This mode provides a safe environment with access to creative tools and limited WorldEdit functions, allowing users to collaborate on structures and enter monthly building contests.
Perhaps the most distinct feature for Slipknot fans is the “Challenge Mode.” This seasonal, hardcore experience operates on a “one life” rule, where death is permanent for the duration of the 45-day season. The themes for these seasons are directly inspired by the band’s discography.
Season 1, titled “The Heretic Anthem”, will introduce a chaotic, blood-red environment ruled by a “Heretic Lord.” This will be followed by Season 2, “The Dying Song”, a twilight world of decay where players must forge a “Beacon of Life.” Finally, Season 3, titled “Friend or Foe?”, promises total unpredictability, with randomized loot and mob behaviors.
Crahan, a Grammy-winning musician known for directing Slipknot‘s films and art, views “Vernearth” as a continuation of his multidisciplinary legacy, bridging the gap between surrealist art and interactive media.
