The long-rumored Slipknot side project Look Outside Your Window has finally been given a firm release date. Rather than being issued under the Slipknot name, the album will arrive as a self-titled release and is set to be pressed on vinyl through LOYW for Record Store Day on April 18th.
After years of stalled plans and missed timelines, the album has taken on near-legendary status within the Slipknot fanbase. The material dates back to the recording period for the band’s 2008 album All Hope Is Gone and has previously been characterized by those involved as leaning toward a more experimental sound, often compared to a Radiohead-like approach.
The project was created by four members of Slipknot who split off during the All Hope Is Gone sessions: vocalist Corey Taylor, guitarist Jim Root, percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, and turntablist Sid Wilson.
Discussing the project as a group, the four musicians explained:
“We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly. We called the project Look Outside Your Window as a tribute to this experimental spirit.”
“Created during a chaotic time in our shared history, the songs were born late at night, in a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Peering out through a big picture window, we wondered about what, or who, might be lurking outside. That sense of the unknown seeped into the music itself. There were no rules; ideas could come from anywhere: subtle drum loops, bits of organ or abstract guitar noise, even samples of frogs or crickets. Guided by emotion and instinct, we let the sounds themselves point the way.”

now over 15 years later, the fans will finally get to experience it for themselves. Splatter vinyl with a die-cut jacket, purple foil on the front of the jacket, purple flood inside the jacket, and embossed text on the back of the jacket.”
