Continuing their tradition of unexpected cover songs, the enigmatic British band Sleep Token delivered another surprise during their Philadelphia arena show this week. In a moment of intimate artistry amidst their massive stage production, frontman Vessel performed a stunning, solo piano rendition of Bruce Springsteen‘s 1984 classic, “Dancing In The Dark.”

The performance took place on Wednesday, September 24, during the band’s sold-out show at the Wells Fargo Center. According to fan-filmed footage, Vessel took to a keyboard alone on stage to perform the iconic song by “The Boss,” which served as a unique and poignant introduction to their own track, “Rain.” The performance marked the first time the band has ever covered the song live.

This is not the first time Sleep Token has put their unique, atmospheric spin on a popular classic. The band has a history of eclectic cover choices that defy genre boundaries, having previously recorded a crooning version of Outkast‘s “Hey Ya!” and performed live renditions of Whitney Houston‘s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” Billie Eilish‘s “When The Party’s Over,” and Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah.”

The Philadelphia show is part of Sleep Token‘s first-ever, completely sold-out U.S. arena headlining tour. The run is a victory lap for their historic, #1-charting album, Even In Arcadia, and features a spectacular new stage production.
