Shinedown fulfilled a longtime fan’s ultimate wish during their Saturday performance at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. While delivering a massive, hits-filled set, the group stopped the show roughly halfway through to honor a specific crowd request, dusting off a live rarity that the band had not performed in 18 years. The song in question was “Junkies for Fame,” a bonus track originally featured on the deluxe reissue of the band’s blockbuster album, The Sound of Madness.

The band had just powered through a relentless block of fan favorites, ripping through “Searchlight,” “Enemies,” “Call Me,” and “Misfits.” As the crew brought out a new guitar for Zach Myers to gear up for the eleventh song of the evening, the guitarist stepped up to the microphone to signal that the setlist was going completely off script.

“Now it’s about to get really interesting,” Brent Smith shared with the crowd.

Zach Myers then added context for the impromptu switch, noting that a young man named Anthony had asked them to play a specific song earlier in the day. Upon spotting the fan in the audience, singer Brent Smith immediately interjected, walking over to his side of the stage to address him directly.

“Real quick, before you say anything. We don’t do this for anyone,” Brent Smith told him. “Anthony, you are the number one tonight, my brother. You are the number one, my man.”

Zach Myers then chimed in to emphasize just how deep into the catalog they were reaching for the performance.

“What he means by that is we have not played this song in 18 years and I mean legitimately 18 years,” Zach Myers added. “By the way Anthony, you just made our monitor engineer the happiest guy on earth. Hey, if this falls apart, I hope you still have a good time tonight, cause it probably will.”

The band managed to successfully rock out through the first verse and chorus of the track before transitioning back to their structured set. Before moving on, Brent Smith pointed into the crowd, noting “All you man,” and rushed down to hug the fan and kiss him on the forehead. Drummer Barry Kerch also came down to offer an embrace and hand over the drumsticks he had just used.

The incredibly rare dedication was given to someone with serious history with the band. The fan, Anthony, was celebrating his 102nd Shinedown concert. The band took to Instagram shortly after the performance to highlight the special moment, expressing their deep gratitude for his long-term dedication.

“When a fan who’s been with us since 2003 has a song request at show #102, you make it happen!!! Whether it’s your first show or too many to count, we’re so glad you’re here,” Shinedown wrote in their post.

Anthony also shared his own perspective on the unforgettable night, posting a slideshow of photos capturing his interactions with Brent Smith and Barry Kerch, alongside a retrospective of pictures taken with the band over the last two decades. He revealed that his very first show took place on June 7, 2003.

“@shinedown my favorite band, my 102nd show, my favorite song being played just for me this was the most incredible night of my life,” he shared on Instagram.

Following their recent appearance at the Sonic Temple festival, Shinedown is currently traversing the country in support of their aptly titled upcoming eighth studio album, Ei8ht. The highly anticipated record is scheduled for release on May 29, with pre-orders currently available for fans.

The current North American leg of their tour stretches into early June, wrapping up with a final stop in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on June 6. The band will spend this week hitting major markets, including upcoming shows in Wichita, Austin, and Oklahoma City. After a brief one-month hiatus to recharge, the group will hit the road again to launch their next North American touring leg on July 11 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
