After months of speculation following the conclusion of the Planet Zero cycle, the multi-platinum rockers are poised to officially unveil the details of their eighth studio album within weeks.

In a new appearance on “The Mistress Carrie Podcast,” drummer Barry Kerch provided a concrete timeline for the reveal, assuring fans that the mystery surrounding the new record is about to be dispelled.

“I know the announcement’s coming out this month,” Kerch confirmed (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “This month, the announcement will be made, and the album title, everything will be out there, and a date for the release will be out there this month.”

While the specific release date is still under wraps for a few more days, the sonic direction of the album has been made clear: the band is ditching the narrative arc. Following two successive concept albums—2018’s Attention Attention and 2022’s Planet Zero—the group made a conscious decision to loosen the reins this time around.

Speaking to “My Weekly Mixtape” a few months prior, Kerch expressed relief at this shift in approach.

“Thank God it’s not a concept record. [Laughs] I had a great time with [2018’s] Attention [Attention] and Planet Zero. Attention was purposely a concept record. Planet Zero just happened to become one because of the time period, recording it during COVID. We were talking about what’s going on in the world, and, ‘Oh, s**t. We wrote another concept record.’ We purposely said, ‘Can we just get a collection of songs together that are fun and put out a record, like old-school rock and roll record?’ And that’s what this one will be.”

Fans who have been spinning the band’s recent string of singles—including “Three Six Five“, “Dance, Kid, Dance“, “Killing Fields“, and “Searchlight“—might think they have a handle on the new era’s sound. However, Kerch warns against making assumptions based on the previews. When asked if those tracks were a strong representation of the full album’s style, his answer was definitive.

“No, not at all. It’s as eclectic as we always do. There’s gonna be things that you’re gonna be, like, ‘Oh, I didn’t expect that.’ And there’s gonna be some that are, like, ‘Oh, that took my head off.’ Is it a reflection of where we’re at right now? Sure. But every song is its own little animal, and I think that’s kind of the excitement of it. I think there’s gonna be some fun stuff that comes out that fans are gonna really glom on to. And there’s certain ones I’m thinking of in the back of my head that are, like, it’s different, that one’s different, but I love it. And then there’s some that, oh, yeah, that’s just a straight-ahead, hit-you-over-the-face Shinedown rock song, which I think ‘Dance, Kid‘ is, in a lot of ways. Get ready for a ride, just like we always do.”

The upcoming album has a high bar to clear, given Shinedown‘s dominant performance throughout 2025. The band solidified their status as radio titans with “Three Six Five” topping multiple formats, while “Dance, Kid, Dance” and “Killing Fields” also hit No. 1. These achievements have extended their record for the most No. 1 songs on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock chart (21) and the Mediabase Active Rock chart (23).

Most recently, the band showcased their versatility with the release of “Searchlight” via Atlantic Records. Written by singer Brent Smith, bassist/producer Eric Bass, and collaborator Dave Bassett, the anthem made waves during the band’s debut at the Grand Ole Opry in October. The accompanying video, directed by Andrew Donoho and filmed in Nashville, captured the band utilizing acoustic instruments like banjo and pedal steel, highlighting a new sonic texture for the group.

The momentum from the studio has translated directly to the stage. Last year, Shinedown celebrated a career milestone by selling out Madison Square Garden during the “Dance, Kid, Dance” arena tour. The band also used the trek for philanthropy, donating $1 per ticket to Musicians On Call, eventually raising $300,000 to launch a bedside music program with HCA Florida Healthcare.

Looking ahead to 2026, the calendar is already filling up. The band is set to headline Sonic Temple for the first time on Friday, May 15, anchoring a lineup that includes My Chemical Romance and Tool. Furthermore, they have announced their own curated destination festival, Shinedown‘s Lunatic Ball Beach Weekend, taking place October 23-25 in Miramar Beach, Florida. The event will feature two headlining sets from Shinedown alongside acts like Bush, Hanson, and Flyleaf.
