Shane Hawkins, son of the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, has offered a new insight into his father’s musical preferences. During a recent drum clinic in Newquay, England, Shane revealed that his father’s most enjoyed Foo Fighters song to perform live was not the one commonly believed.
While onstage at the Dead Famous bar, Shane Hawkins told the audience, “People say that ‘Aurora‘ was his favorite to play, but that’s a lie.” Instead, according to Shane, Taylor actually preferred playing “Low,” from the One By One album. Shane suggested that this preference might come as a surprise to many, as “Low” was not a regular feature in the band’s live setlists.
Shane speculated on the reason for its infrequent appearance: “Dave [Grohl] did let him play it with them, but it’s a hard f***ing one for them to do.” Following this revelation, Shane Hawkins performed the track on drums for the attendees.
Shane Hawkins’ drumming skills first gained widespread attention during the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts. He is set to continue his father’s legacy by taking over drumming duties for Chevy Metal, Taylor Hawkins’ covers band, for their upcoming summer shows in July and August. These performances will begin in Denver, Colorado, and conclude in Agoura Hills, California.
The question of who will permanently fill the drummer position for Foo Fighters remains a topic of speculation, especially following Josh Freese‘s recent departure. While Dave Grohl handled drums on their But Here We Are album, Freese had served as the touring drummer. Shane Hawkins’ name has been frequently mentioned as a potential successor, though no official announcement has been made regarding the band’s new drummer for their upcoming shows later this year, including an anticipated trip to Asia with a performance at the Singapore Grand Prix. Shane’s active involvement in music and his unique connection to his father’s work continue to fuel fan anticipation.
