Grammy-nominated metal veterans Sevendust have released a crushing new single, “Threshold“, as they prepare for the release of their 15th studio album, One, arriving on May 1.
Featuring the steadfast lineup of vocalist Lajon Witherspoon, guitarists Clint Lowery and John Connolly, bassist Vince Hornsby, and drummer Morgan Rose, the new track delivers the band’s trademark heavy grooves intertwined with intense melodic hooks. “Threshold” tackles themes of being pushed to the breaking point, with Lajon Witherspoon aggressively delivering the motivational lyrics: “You want another piece of me, don’t ya? To break apart so you get what you wanted?”
The single is accompanied by a new animated music video directed by animator Ollie Jones. The visual serves as a direct sequel to the storyline established in the band’s previous video for “Fence“. This new chapter follows a greedy music agent who pressures a management team into exhuming the decayed bodies of Sevendust. Using a mysterious substance, the band is reanimated and forced back onto the road strictly for the agent’s financial gain. The video concludes with the zombified musicians entirely under his control, leaving their ultimate fate unknown.
Continuing to evolve their unmistakable sound nearly 30 years into their career, One promises an emotional sonic journey from the heavy opening riffs of the title track, “One“, to the atmospheric and dreamy vocal fade-out on the closing song, “Misdirection“.
To capture the record, Sevendust reunited with acclaimed producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (known for his work with Alter Bridge and Slash) at Studio Barbarosa in Gotha, Florida. The foundational writing sessions for the album were intimately held at the farmhouse of Lajon Witherspoon and his wife, Ashley.
