In a surprising twist for a band in the middle of their global farewell tour, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser has revealed that the Brazilian metal legends have secretly recorded a new four-song EP. In a new interview, Kisser explained that the decision to end the band has paradoxically freed them from the “predictable” pressures of the album-tour cycle, allowing for a “very spontaneous” burst of creativity with their new drummer, Greyson Nekrutman.
Speaking at the Mystic Festival in Poland, Kisser dropped the unexpected news that new music is on the way, even as the band says its final goodbyes.
“We recorded four new songs with Greyson on drums. I don’t think nobody knows that, but there we go,” he revealed. “We have the intention, next year, to release an EP, just to celebrate this momentum.”
The new material was born not from a planned album session, but from a moment of pure, pressure-free inspiration earlier this year. “It was very spontaneous,” Kisser explained. “We played the 70000 Tons Of Metal and we stayed in Miami. ‘We have this studio. We have a few ideas. Okay, let’s do it.’ And it was great. No pressure from labels, no due date. The songs [don’t] even have [names] yet.”
This unexpected creative burst is, ironically, a direct result of the band’s decision to embark on their “Celebrating Life Through Death” farewell tour. Kisser explained that after 40 years, the band wanted to break free from the “routine” of the music industry.
“I was kind of feeling to get in that mode of doing another album, doing another tour, it’s kind of too predictable,” he said. “I mean, an artist has to be not in the comfort zone. If you’re there, you’re f***ed, because you’re going to lose touch with reality… Art is risks.” He described the decision to stop as a “privilege,” one made “peacefully” and on the band’s “own terms.”
As the band continues its final run, they are already planning a monumental final show. Kisser confirmed the idea is to host a “big SEPUL-fest type of show” in São Paulo, Brazil, around October 2026. In a significant gesture of peace and celebration, he reiterated that all former members will be invited to participate, including founding members Max and Igor Cavalera.
“We like to invite every member that was a part of Sepultura… to be a part of the concert, to play, to jam,” he said. “It’s totally irrelevant to discuss the past, who is right, who is wrong… Let’s jam for the fans, to ourselves, to our families.”
The new EP is the perfect embodiment of Kisser‘s definition of the band’s identity. “It’s not thrash metal… It’s Sepultura metal,” he declared.
