Sebastian Bach, the iconic former frontman of SKID ROW, is set to deliver a unique experience for Australian fans this November, performing the entirety of the band’s self-titled debut album, Skid Row, live on a five-date tour. In a recent interview with Australia’s Heavy, Bach offered candid insights into the vocal demands and nostalgic quality of revisiting the landmark 1989 record.
The tour was originally planned for 2020 to celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary but was postponed. Bach explained the special circumstances behind this exclusive tour run, saying (as transcribed by Blabbermouth): “We’re only doing this in Australia, because it was already gonna happen, and then it couldn’t happen. So we’re gonna do it.”
When asked about the difficulties of relearning the songs after decades, Bach was direct about the vocal challenges. “Well, there’s certain notes that are very challenging,” he admitted. He went on to draw a compelling contrast between the band’s first two albums, stating, “I learned that the first record was more about singing and Slave To The Grind was more about screaming.” He used “Livin’ On A Chain Gang” as a prime example from the second album, describing it as a song that is “just me screaming at the top of my lungs for the whole song.” In contrast, he feels the debut album has a “more pop sensibility” and captures “a real innocence about us as a band and about the times, 1989. It has a real innocent quality to it.”
Since the album’s 45-minute runtime doesn’t constitute a full concert, Bach assured fans that the show will be a comprehensive set, featuring songs from his new solo album, Child Within The Man, including the fan-favorite “What Do I Got To Lose,” and other classics from Slave To The Grind. The vocalist emphasized his commitment to delivering these performances, declaring, “We only have one life. We’ve gotta make the most of it. So we’re gonna give you the tour.”
Bach‘s current touring lineup features his son Paris Bach on drums, “Bruiser” Brody DeRozie on guitar, and Fede Delfino on bass.
The Australian tour kicks off on November 21st in Perth and concludes on November 29th in Brisbane. Before that, Bach has a busy schedule of North American dates throughout the summer and fall.
