As the legendary German rockers Scorpions embark on celebrations for their remarkable 60th anniversary, plans for a swift follow-up to their 2022 album Rock Believer appear to be on the back burner. In a recent interview with Colombia’s Radioacktiva, key members indicated that extensive touring commitments are taking precedence over new studio recordings for now.
Frontman Klaus Meine explained the band’s current mindset regarding creating new music (as transcribed by Blabbermouth):
“We’re so busy with touring that you know you need a moment where it’s time again for the band to join in the studio and we create some new music. But right now, this 60-years-of-Scorpions celebration will take us again one more time around the world so many places. So it’s not the moment to create something new. But maybe a song or two, that might work, but not an album like Rock Believer.”
Guitarist Rudolf Schenker echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of celebrating their milestone anniversary live with their global fanbase:
“Think about that we [would be] spending our time of 60 years of Scorpions in the studio. That would be terrible. We have to party like crazy. [Laughs] So that’s the point. We want to enjoy, with all the people around the world, that rock is still living and we are still living and we are enjoying [performing] still, and we love you.”
While a full album seems improbable in the near future, Meine had expressed a continued interest in the creative process just two months prior in an interview with Scorpions Brazil. He mentioned the enjoyment and advantages of writing and recording:
“There are many good reasons why we maybe should [create new music], because it’s so much fun… And we have such a great team working with us.”
He specifically praised their engineer Hans-Martin Buff, who recently won a Grammy for his 3D sound work with Peter Gabriel, calling him “really, really good” and noting the “great setup” they have. However, even then, Meine tempered expectations:
“So there are a million good reasons to go back into the studio sometime soon. But, on the other side, these days, it’s not the time anymore really to make albums. It might be good to record a few songs; that would be a good thing… But let’s see how it goes this year. And there’s so many shows coming up, and, yeah, we’ve gotta bring it on first before we make plans for what might come up in ’26.”
Their last studio album, Rock Believer, was primarily recorded in Hannover, Germany, and mixed in Berlin by Michael Ilbert. The band, alongside engineer Hans-Martin Buff, handled production duties after initial plans to work with Greg Fidelman in Los Angeles were altered due to the pandemic.
The Scorpions‘ current focus on live performances comes as they navigate their 60th-anniversary celebrations, which include a rescheduled Las Vegas residency. Originally planned for February 2025, the “Scorpions – Coming Home To Las Vegas 60th Anniversary Las Vegas Residency” at Planet Hollywood was postponed following drummer Mikkey Dee‘s hospitalization with sepsis over the 2024/2025 holiday season. The new dates are now set for August 14, 16, 19, 21, and 23, 2025, with Buckcherry remaining as the support act. This residency follows two previous successful runs at the venue in 2022 and 2024.
For now, fans can anticipate celebrating six decades of Scorpions rock live on stage, while new recorded music remains a possibility for the future rather than an immediate priority.
