Biff Byford, the iconic vocalist of British heavy metal legends Saxon, has officially confirmed the release date for the band’s milestone 25th studio album. During a recent appearance on France’s Last Ride podcast, the frontman shared an “exclusive” update regarding the status of the new record, revealing that it is scheduled to arrive on January 22, 2027.

The upcoming album serves as the follow-up to the band’s highly successful 2024 release, Hell, Fire And Damnation. According to Biff Byford, fans will not have to wait long to hear the first taste of new music, with the lead single and pre-orders set to launch this autumn.

“I can’t tell you anything about that. What we can tell you, though, is — [and this is an] exclusive — we can tell you that the album is coming out on [Friday] the 22 of January [of 2027]. Nobody knows that. You’re the first person [we’ve told]. And you’re gonna be able to order the album early September. And the first single — video and single — I think it’s gonna be a seven-inch vinyl as well of the single, in September,” Byford revealed.

The new Saxon record was once again overseen by acclaimed producer and Judas Priest touring guitarist Andy Sneap. Byford had previously revealed in January 2026 that Andy Sneap had finalized the mixing process for the album. The collaboration continues a successful run for the band, as Andy Sneap also produced, mixed, and mastered Hell, Fire And Damnation.

The songwriting sessions for the 25th album began as early as July 2024. Biff Byford noted that the creative process involved contributions from the entire lineup, including guitarist Doug Scarratt, drummer Nigel Glockler, and bassist Tim “Nibbs” Carter. The band spent the early months of 2025 refining these ideas before entering the studio.

The recording of the primary tracks, including drums, bass, and guitars, reportedly commenced in November 2025 following the conclusion of the band’s touring schedule for that year.

The announcement comes at a time when Saxon continues to maintain a prolific output, even as they approach nearly five decades as a cornerstone of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. By scheduling the release for early 2027, the band follows a similar cycle to their previous record, which was also released in the month of January to widespread critical acclaim.

While the title of the new album and the name of the lead single have not yet been disclosed, the inclusion of a physical seven-inch vinyl release for the first single highlights the band’s commitment to traditional formats for their dedicated fanbase. More details regarding the tracklist and thematic direction of the album are expected to emerge when pre-orders officially open in September 2026.
