Sabaton Frontman Joakim Brodén Reveals His Dream Gig: Performing On Omaha Beach For D-Day Anniversary

Sabaton frontman Joakim Brodén has revealed his ultimate “dream gig” for the band: a performance on the battlefields of Normandy, France, to commemorate the anniversary of the D-Day landings.

In a new interview posted to the band’s YouTube channel, the singer explained that he wants to connect the band’s music to the historic locations that inspired it. The D-Day landings, of course, were the direct inspiration for Sabaton‘s fan-favorite 2005 anthem, “Primo Victoria.”

“One thing I would love to do that we haven’t yet, I’d love to play battlefields where the events of the song actually happened,” Brodén said in the interview.

He then detailed the specific, ambitious scenario he has in mind.

“So a dream of mine, obviously, would be to play Normandy beaches, let’s say Omaha beach or something like that, in the north of France, on June 6 one year: the anniversary of the D-Day landings,” Brodén stated.

The Swedish power metal band, famous for their lyrics based on military history, recently released their 11th studio album, Legends, on October 17. The new album focuses on conflicts and legendary figures from before the 20th century, including Vlad The Impaler, the Knights Templar, and Genghis Khan.

Sabaton is now preparing to take this new material on the road for “The Legendary Tour,” a massive North American trek set for 2026. The run is divided into several legs, kicking off in February and concluding with a run of Canadian shows in April.
