Canadian prog-rock icons Rush have officially confirmed the addition of veteran keyboardist Loren Gold to their live lineup as the band prepares to return to the stage later this year.

The move fulfills a promise by co-founders Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson to expand the touring configuration for their highly anticipated “Fifty Something” tour — their first run of shows in 11 years.

The 2026 dates across Canada, the United States, and Mexico will launch later this year, marking the band’s long-awaited live return following the 2020 death of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. After Peart’s passing, Lee and Lifeson had previously indicated that Rush’s chapter had closed, making this comeback all the more significant.

Speaking to Planet Rock, Lee said: “We also have hired a keyboard player who’s going to be coming on the road with us. He’s played with The Who for the last 12 years or more and also Chicago and he’s a real veteran. So we’re excited to bring him on board and our first rehearsal with him starts very soon.”

Gold arrives with decades of high-level touring experience. He began working with Roger Daltrey in 2009 before joining The Who in 2012, appearing on multiple major live releases and global tours.

In addition to his tenure with The Who, Gold stepped in for Chicago during their 2021 tour and became the band’s official keyboardist in 2022. He has also collaborated with Kenny Loggins, Don Felder, Taylor Hicks, and Hilary Duff, and released his solo debut Reflections of Gold in 1998.

Apart from North American run, Rush have already mapped out an extensive 2027 itinerary across South America and Europe. The newly announced dates mark the band’s first European shows since 2013 and their return to South America in more than 15 years.

The 2027 leg will continue the “evening with” format, featuring two sets per night and setlists drawn from more than 40 songs spanning the band’s catalog. Each show is expected to include a rotating selection of material, offering fans a unique experience at every stop.

German drummer Anika Nilles will handle drums for the upcoming run.
