A new collaborative project featuring a trio of well-known metal musicians is reportedly in the works. The supergroup will consist of distant Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, ex-Fear Factory Christian Olde Wolbers, and current Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman.
The news came to light via a social media post from Wolbers, which showed the three musicians together. The post sparked immediate interest, and Wolbers further fueled speculation with a comment directly mentioning Cypress Hill vocalist B-Real, stating, “@breal we got 2 in the can.” This suggests that B-Real may be a part of the project as well, with at least two songs already completed.
The connection between Wolbers and B-Real is not new. Wolbers has previously performed live with Cypress Hill, and both artists were members of the short-lived rap-rock project Kush in the early 2000s, alongside Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter. While that project was ultimately shelved due to a record label dispute, their collaboration has continued, with Wolbers also playing with Cypress Hill vocalist Sen Dog in the band Powerflo.
This new endeavor provides insight into the creative direction of Fieldy, who has been on an indefinite hiatus from Korn since 2021. His departure was due to personal reasons, and while his signature basslines were featured on the band’s 2022 album, Requiem, he has not performed live with them since. Fieldy has been replaced on tour by Ra Díaz of Suicidal Tendencies.
During the interview on The Dr. Greenthumb Show, Fieldy addressed the possibility of his return to Korn, stating that while he has no immediate plans to rejoin the band on tour, he is open to future possibilities. “I won’t be playing any shows, but we’ll see what tomorrow brings. You never know. But for now, no. I’ve got plenty to do,” he said. This new project appears to be a major part of what he is currently focused on. With the addition of Wolbers on guitar and Nekrutman on drums, the group’s sound is sure to be a fascinating blend of nu-metal, industrial, and thrash, offering a fresh creative outlet for these seasoned musicians.
