Rikki Rockett performed Look What The Cat Dragged In in full at the Whisky A Go Go on Friday, 40 years after its release.
Rikki Rockett played Look What The Cat Dragged In from start to finish on Friday night at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, with his band The Rockett Mafia. Fan-shot video of the show, uploaded by the “Kenneth Ramone” channel, is online and can be seen down below.
For the Whisky date the Poison drummer was joined by Brandon Gibbs of Devil City Angels on vocals and guitar, former L.A. Guns guitarist Stacey Blades on guitar and backing vocals, and Michael Adams of Puddle Of Mudd on bass.
The band have been performing the album across the United States since May 21, when the run opened at The Vixen in McHenry, Illinois. Rockett has billed it as “Look What The Mob Dragged In“.
“Playing Poison‘s first album with The Rockett Mafia is a full-circle moment for me,” he said when the shows were announced. “It’s raw, it’s fun, and it’s exactly how those songs were meant to be heard. Celebrating the 40th anniversary is really about giving the fans a chance to relive that moment with us.”
He set out the format in a video message: “It’s gonna be a celebration of Look What The Cat Dragged In. We’re calling it ‘Look What The Mob Dragged In‘, going across this country. We’re gonna perform everything, from the first chord to the last scream of that record, plus more, some fan favorites. But we’re not gonna stop there. We’re gonna offer some really cool VIP packages where you can, of course, meet the band, take a picture, come to a soundcheck, signed merch, all kinds of really cool stuff. Of the band itself, he said: “This band lets me play the kind of rock I grew up loving — loud, raw, and from the heart. We take the music we love and give it new life, and now with Pavement behind us, we’re ready to take it to a whole new level.”
Look What The Cat Dragged In came out on May 23, 1986 through Enigma and Capitol, produced by Ric Browde at Music Grinder Studios in Hollywood. Four singles were taken from it: “Cry Tough“, which failed to chart on first release, “Talk Dirty To Me“, which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band’s breakthrough, “I Want Action” and “I Won’t Forget You“, which peaked at 13. It sold in the region of four million copies worldwide and remains the biggest-selling release in Enigma‘s history.
Poison formed in 1983. Their own 40th anniversary tour was shelved earlier this year. Rockett said in January that Bret Michaels had sought six dollars for every one his bandmates would earn from the shows; Michaels rejected that account, saying the band “never got to that part of negotiations.”
Rockett‘s memoir, “Ghost Notes: My Life In Poison“, is published on September 15 through Rare Bird Books.
