After being hospitalized with a subdural hematoma, Raven bassist and vocalist John Gallagher has released a video message for fans, announcing the postponement of the band’s upcoming European tour. In the video, Gallagher, who underwent emergency surgery, said he is on the road to recovery but is not strong enough to perform.
Gallagher explained that he was admitted to the hospital on August 12 with severe headaches. A CAT scan revealed a brain bleed, leading to his first surgery the next day. A second, more invasive procedure was performed on August 19.
“Hey there, everybody,” Gallagher said in his video message. “Not the video I wanted to make, but here we are. So, as you can see, I’m in the hospital and there’s my metal horns.” He reassured fans that he is recovering well, but admitted he wouldn’t be able to handle the rigors of a tour. “I’m just not strong enough, and as you know, our show is all about strength,” he said.
Raven‘s tour postponement was first announced in a joint statement from John, guitarist Mark Gallagher, and drummer Mike Heller. They described John‘s condition as a subdural hematoma, which is a brain bleed that requires surgery. The band, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, said that very few shows have been canceled in their career.
The statement concluded with a promise to fans that Raven would return “Stronger than ever!” John echoed that sentiment in his video, saying: “Once I’m ready, we will come back better than ever. So thank you all and we will see you very soon. Rock until you drop.”
Raven is considered a key band in the “New Wave of British Heavy Metal” movement and is known for its high-energy live shows. The band is currently working with its booking agency and promoters to reschedule the tour dates.
