Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello and System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian have reunited to release a brand-new track titled “ADJOURN IT“. The collaborative protest anthem also features musical contributions from Tom Morello‘s teenage son, Roman Morello.

The two outspoken musicians are longtime compatriots in the rock and metal communities. In 2002, they co-founded the non-profit organization Axis Of Justice to combat racism and raise awareness for various social justice causes.

Discussing the inspiration and meaning behind the new single, Tom Morello provided the following statement earlier:

“The persecution of immigrants across the land and the counterforce of a heroic resistance to the rising tide of fascism. ADJOURN IT‘ is a ‘Freedom Song’ of crushing riffs for justice and equality.”

The newly debuted music video for “ADJOURN IT” incorporates historic visual elements. The creators offered additional context regarding the significance of the footage and its connection to the 1954 independent film “Salt of the Earth“.

“Clips from the film Salt of the Earth (1954) are woven throughout the ‘ADJOURN IT‘ video to reflect the song’s theme of resistance in the face of prejudice and injustice. The film is based on a true story of Mexican-American miners fighting against labor exploitation, racism, and institutional oppression, and was made by three Hollywood executives blacklisted for their political beliefs.”

“It stars real zinc miners and was one of the first ever truly independent films. Salt of the Earth was a powerful act of defiance in its time and more than half a century later, its themes continue to echo through today’s political climate. ‘ADJOURN IT‘ channels the defiant legacy of the film reinforcing the importance of solidarity in bringing people together against fear and division.”

All three musicians involved in the new track are scheduled to perform live at the upcoming “Power To The People” festival, curated by Tom Morello. The event will take place on October 3, 2026, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

The festival lineup features high-profile acts including Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, and Dave Matthews. While officially billed as a “non-partisan celebration of peace, justice, solidarity, music, and community action”, the gathering serves as counterprogramming to MAGA-aligned live events organized by the current U.S. administration, featuring a robust roster of artists who have vocally opposed the policies of Donald Trump.

Both Tom Morello and Bruce Springsteen have actively participated in protests against policies enacted under U.S. President Donald Trump, who has previously directed public criticism toward Bruce Springsteen.

Regarding the purpose of the two-stage festival, Tom Morello said:

“The ‘Power To The People‘ festival is about freedom, justice, equality and rock and roll. It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action. We’re honored to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”

In addition to the musical performances, the venue will host a “Freedom Village” to provide a platform for various advocacy groups and nonprofit organizations. A portion of the proceeds from all VIP ticket sales will be directed to Headcount and VoteRiders, two organizations dedicated to assisting voters with registration and navigating the U.S. voting process.
