Queens Of The Stone Age revealed Perfecth in a teaser that gives September 30 as the release date before striking it out.
Queens Of The Stone Age have named their ninth album Perfecth. Whether it arrives on the date they gave is another matter.
The reveal came in a 90-second film credited to Andreas Neumann, in which Josh Homme and guitarist and keyboardist Dean Fertita sit across a table playing five-finger fillet, driving a knife between their fingers. Fertita handles it comfortably. Mid-game he asks when the record is out, and Homme answers: “September 30th, I think.”
Homme‘s turn goes badly. He puts the blade through his own hand and the clip turns into a mess of blood, after which a voiceover announces: “Queens of the Stone Age, the new album, Perfecth, coming September 30th.” The date is then struck through on screen and replaced with “Coming… soon?” — which is also the title the band gave the video.
There is a practical reason to doubt it. September 30 this year falls on a Wednesday, and albums are conventionally released on Fridays.
“Easy Street” arrived on July 14 through Matador Records as the first taste of the record, with Nikki Lane on guest vocals. It was the band’s first new studio material in three years, though they had aired it live the previous autumn during the Catacombs run. Its video is similarly bloody, following a battered Homme as he is chased through a village by a mob. The campaign has also included an online complaint line.
In Times New Roman…, released on June 16, 2023 and produced by the band themselves, was their eighth album and closed the Matador trilogy that began with …Like Clockwork in 2013 and continued with Villains in 2017. Since then they have put out the Alive In The Catacombs live EP and film, recorded in the Paris catacombs, and toured on the back of it.
The band are currently supporting Foo Fighters on North American stadium dates, a run that continues around the album’s expected release. Alongside Homme and Fertita, the lineup is guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, bassist Michael Shuman and drummer Jon Theodore.
