Queen guitarist Brian May appeared as a guest at bandmate Roger Taylor‘s solo concert at the Roundhouse in London on Monday, September 28.
May walked on stage for the final two songs of the night, joining Taylor for versions of the Queen classics “We Will Rock You” and “Radio Ga Ga“. Fan-filmed footage of the moment has been shared online and can be seen down below.
The 77-year-old Taylor is on the road in support of his new solo album, Violence Insane In A Beautiful World, released on September 18 through Columbia Records. He sang lead vocals throughout the two-hour concert and played drums on only one song.
Taylor was backed by a band of younger musicians, including drummer Tyler Warren, multi-instrumentalist Tina Keys, bassist Neil Fairclough and guitarist Christian Mendoza, along with long-time Queen keyboardist Philip “Spike” Edney.
Violence Insane In A Beautiful World is Taylor‘s seventh solo album and his first since 2021’s Outsider, which reached the UK Top 3. He released his first solo single in 1977 and has also made three albums with his side project The Cross.
Taylor and May first played together in the band Smile, which they formed in 1968. By 1971, the group had become Queen with the arrival of singer Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon. Taylor played on all 15 of Queen‘s studio albums and wrote songs including “Radio Ga Ga“, “A Kind Of Magic” and “These Are The Days Of Our Lives“.
He was a co-executive music producer on the 2018 film “Bohemian Rhapsody“, which told the story of the band and grossed more than $900 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing music biopic ever. The film won four Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Rami Malek‘s portrayal of Mercury.
Since 2011, Taylor and May have toured the world as Queen with singer Adam Lambert. Taylor was made an OBE for services to music in 2020.
