Puddle Of Mudd Drops Official Music Video For New Single ‘Free’, Wes Scantlin Says: ‘Look Up To God, Ask Him For Help’

Puddle of Mudd has officially unveiled the visual accompaniment for their latest track, “Free“. The song is a standout cut from the rock group’s most recent full-length studio album, Kiss The Machine, which originally hit shelves in May 2025 via Pavement Entertainment. Filmed on location in Los Angeles, the new music video was directed by Vicente Cordero.

Thematically, the track holds a heavy, personal significance for Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin. Serving as a reflection on his well-documented past battles, the lyrics focus heavily on cutting toxic ties, avoiding bad influences, and embracing a positive environment.

“Everybody goes through life with ups and downs, and you can find your way. Along the way, people come around and they’re not your people. Accept the people who are trying to help you,” Wes Scantlin explained.

When facing these difficult moments, the singer noted that he leans heavily on his faith to pull him through the darkness and keep him moving forward.

“Look up to God, ask Him for help, and He’ll take you somewhere better. “I hope people hear their own story in ‘Free‘ and take whatever they need from the song. Keep your head up, improve, and remain awesome. God will guide you in the right direction. Get free. Stay free. Stay kind and be nice to each other,” he added.

Formed in Kansas City back in 1991, Puddle of Mudd has gone through numerous roster changes over the decades, leaving Wes Scantlin as the sole original member. The band’s current touring lineup features returning bassist Michael Anthony Grajewski, alongside new drummer Jon Smith and lead guitarist Miles Schon (the son of legendary Journey guitarist Neal Schon).

The group has maintained a steady output of content recently. In February, they released a music video for another single titled “Rain” through LoudHit Records and Virgin Music Group. Additionally, after signing a fresh management deal with NI Music Group last August, the frontman hit Warner Chappell Studios in Los Angeles. Working directly with CEO Eric T. Johnson and audio engineer Ethan Ray Shevin, those recent sessions yielded a brand new track called “Monsters“.
