The night Matt Sorum assembled to honor Paul Rodgers and Geezer Butler was never meant to become a record. It has become one anyway.
Sound & Vision Live is a double vinyl set drawn from the first Palm Springs Sound & Vision Awards, held at the historic Plaza Theatre on March 2, 2026. Pre-sale opens August 3 through Experience Vinyl, with the pressing capped at 2,000 copies at $99.98.
Sorum, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, Grammy winner, and co-founder of the Adopt The Arts Foundation, produced the release and served as musical director on the night. He had the show captured for his own archive, not for distribution.
“I never went into that night thinking we were making a record,” Sorum said. “I originally had the show recorded and filmed because I wanted to preserve the experience for myself. But when I listened back, I realized we had captured something truly magical — the energy in the room, the performances, and the spirit of all these incredible artists coming together for the kids. Through Experience Vinyl, we had an opportunity to turn that moment into something people could hold on to while raising meaningful support for music education.”
Every musician who played donated their time. The foundation restores and sustains music programs in underserved public elementary schools, and all proceeds route back to that work.
Rodgers took the stage to accept his award and to perform, the sold-out crowd got “Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy” and an all-hands “All Right Now“.
Speaking after the event, the Free and Bad Company vocalist framed the evening in terms that carry weight given how rarely he has performed in recent years: “I felt such a mighty wave of love and respect from the crowd and top-level musicians that I got to play with. The wait to return to the stage was worth it. IF this was my last live performance, I am happy it was for the children of Adopt the Arts, I am at peace with that.”
The album preserves his acceptance speech in full as a separate track.
The second portion of the program turned to Black Sabbath. Lzzy Hale opened it with “Symptom Of The Universe“, Charlie Starr followed with “Children Of The Grave“, and Butler walked out to a standing ovation to join the band.
He then played bass on “N.I.B.” with Glenn Hughes singing, “Neon Knights” with Hale back on vocals, and “Paranoid” and “War Pigs” fronted by Corey Taylor. His acceptance speech also appears on the record.
The performance came roughly eight months after the death of Ozzy Osbourne, and less than a year after Black Sabbath‘s farewell concert in Birmingham.
The cast assembled for the evening:
- Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company)
- Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)
- Corey Taylor (Slipknot)
- Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)
- Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple)
- Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme)
- Charlie Starr (Blackberry Smoke)
- Phil X (Bon Jovi)
- Steve Stevens (Billy Idol)
- Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver)
- Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots)
- Stevie Salas (Mick Jagger)
- Mike Mangan (The Cult)
- Paul Ill (Alicia Keys)
Jane Lynch, who co-founded Adopt The Arts with Sorum in 2012, hosted.
The evening opened with the Adopt The Arts Angels Honor Choir moving through the aisles by candlelight, performing an original classical arrangement by Matteo Zarcone that wove “All Right Now” together with “Changes”. Both choir pieces close their respective halves on the record.
Of the 2,000 copies, 250 Plaza Theatre collector’s editions are reserved for the September 13 release celebration. Those come on color vinyl with artwork not included on the standard edition. Everything else sells exclusively through Experience Vinyl.
Experience Vinyl donated its services outright so sales revenue flows to the foundation, and separate philanthropic funding covered mixing, mastering and completion of both the album and its companion concert film.
“Experience Vinyl is about preserving the moments in music that deserve to live beyond a single night,” said founder Seth Frank. “From the performances to the purpose behind them, Sound & Vision Live is exactly the kind of project we want to help bring into the world. We are proud to donate our work and platform so that proceeds directly support Adopt The Arts and help provide children with access to music education.”
The release celebration returns to the Plaza Theatre on Sunday, September 13, 2026, built around two screenings of the concert film, which pairs the March 2 performances with rehearsal footage and commentary from Sorum.
- 3:00 p.m. – community screening for Palm Springs Unified School District students and families
- 7:00 p.m. – public screening and record-release celebration, with a live conversation featuring Sorum and an unannounced guest, exclusive merchandise, and a silent auction

Kemble Walters and Miguel Sosa handled recording. Walters mixed at Goodnoise Studios in Palm Springs. Grammy-winning engineer Howie Weinberg mastered for vinyl alongside Will Borza. Jackie and Joby Pritzker served as executive producers. Dale Lawrence, James Malachowski and Sam Senigaglia are credited as co-executive producers.
Adopt The Arts now reaches more than 4,000 students a year across Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley, supplying instruction, instruments, curriculum, teacher support, artist mentorship and performance opportunities.
“Every artist who stepped onto that stage understood why we were there,” Sorum said. “We came together to celebrate two legends, but the real encore is every child who discovers music because of this record.”
