Paradise Lost first emerged from Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, quickly becoming architects of the gothic metal sound with defining early works like the album Gothic. Never content to stay in one place musically, they achieved broader success with 1995’s Draconian Times before shifting gears significantly in the late ’90s, exploring alternative rock influences on albums such as One Second and Host.
Their journey continued through powerful, ornate releases like 2009’s Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us. In more recent years, albums including The Plague Within (2015) and Medusa (2017) saw the band revisiting their heavier, doom-laden origins to much acclaim. Known for their captivating stage presence, Paradise Lost are widely regarded as influential veterans in the metal world. Their latest studio effort, Obsidian, achieved international success upon its release in spring 2020.
The band are nearing the completion of their highly anticipated follow-up to the mentioned Obsidian. Recent interviews with the band’s guitarists confirm that the new material is recorded, with sights set on a release later this year.
“It’s not fully mixed yet, but it’s recorded.”
“It’s been the longest time we’ve ever had between albums. But that’s kind of because of the pandemic as well… So sh*t happens. And, yeah, hopefully it’ll come out September, October time this year.”
