Jacoby Shaddix Live 2025

Papa Roach recently shared their personal selections for the most essential nu metal tracks in history. In a newly released video posted to the band’s social media channels, each member weighed in on what they consider the genre’s ultimate crowning achievements.

Lead vocalist Jacoby Shaddix kicked off the discussion by selecting “Break Stuff” by their peers in Limp Bizkit. However, the frontman admitted he was heavily tempted to choose his own band’s signature anthem, “Last Resort“, which currently holds a staggering six-times Platinum certification in the United States.

Bassist Tobin Esperance highlighted the genre-defining 1994 classic “Blind” by Korn. Reflecting on the track’s immediate and lasting impact, he noted:

“The first time I heard that opening intro to ‘Blind‘ I was like, ‘Oh s**t, this is something that I haven’t heard before.'”

Drummer Tony Palermo selected the hit 1997 single “My Own Summer (Shove It)” by Deftones. Acknowledging the band’s historically complex relationship with the genre tag, he explained:

“I know Deftones don’t like to be coined as nu metal, but ‘Shove It‘ is up there.”

Rounding out the group, guitarist Jerry Horton confidently bypassed any false modesty to officially select “Last Resort” as the absolute best of the genre.

Formed in Vacaville, California, in 1993, Papa Roach initially self-released their 1997 debut album, Old Friends From Young Years. They later signed with DreamWorks Records in 1999 to release their massive mainstream breakthrough, Infest, in 2000. “Last Resort” served as the album’s lead single, immediately dominating rock and alternative radio charts worldwide.

Looking ahead, the band is currently finalizing the highly anticipated follow-up to their 2022 studio album, Ego Trip. During a recent interview with Wikimetal, Jacoby Shaddix confirmed the upcoming record is slated for a release later this year and will feature the recently released singles “Wake Up Calling“, “Braindead“, and “Even If It Kills Me“.

Addressing the creative direction of the new music, the singer shared:

“This next one is quite a journey. I really feel like, with Ego Trip, we found our rhythm. I think we’re continuing from where we left off on that one, only going even deeper.”

In support of their expanding catalog, Papa Roach has booked an extensive global touring schedule for 2026, featuring a massive run of international dates spanning Asia, Australia, North America, and Europe.
